Good Morning,

My name is Amraah Ifhaam, and I’m a freshman transfer got accepted as an undeclared/Civil Engineer major student at the City College of New York. I want to major in civil engineer because I’ve always had an interest in engineer since middle school. But it grew even more throughout High School because I took an interest in researching about civil engineer. The more I learned, the crazier I got about Engineer.

Having an academic goal is beneficial because it keeps me undistracted. It’ll direct me to the path I need to be in. It’ll also help me from delaying to my degree that I believe I can achieve.

Some of my short-term goals are to create a consistent study schedule for me to stay on track with my education. One of my most significant short-term goal is finalizing my major. To use resources given to me from the City College of New York wisely (ex: tutoring services). I personally think I need to improve on research writing skills, I know I can do better, I just need to figure out what I need help with. Currently, I’d like to achieve a passing grade for my writing for engineering class.

For a long time now, I’ve always wanted to work as a part timer. I plan to get a job someday soon this year. And, to get over my fear of public speaking to boost up my confidence. In order to achieve my long-term goal, I’ll have to plan and cooperate to get there. As a college student, my long-term goal is to pass all my engineering class with at least a B+.

No matter what career I choose, I believe networking is the sincerest goal because communicating with individuals who I work with will take me somewhere. Developing social and professional skills is the key to exchange information with other individuals. I hope to own a business someday that’ll give the people a chance to get something out of me.

The importance of the field of engineering will play in the future in a way that it’ll give the world safe environment. Need to make sure the materials used for construction site are safe for the community. With the help of engineers, bridges, roads, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, etc. will be fixed whenever a problem occurs. It will be free of danger.

With the use of my skills, I aspire to be a Civil engineer. Exchanging information with individuals will take me somewhere. Knowing how to work under pressure as a group will help me in a way to overcome deadlines. Using my creativity, I can bring a new perspective. And by identifying what I lack to progress on will help me have a better understanding.

Sincerely,

Amraah Ifhaam
